:: A Rehearsal ::

All of the images in this gallery are from our own wilderness here in North America. My plan is to take this same vision to another location on our planet with a different biosphere, history and culture, and document how that habitat, with it’s human population, feels.

This series is more about spirit than it is about graphics and landscape. It’s what I’ve been calling a “Conversation”, where I’m the listener and the messenger. Humans lived here tens of thousands of years ago. They still speak to us, are here for us, and can guide us, if we listen.

The “Conversation” also helps our ancestors spirits when we reach out. We can share the miracle of this life with them, and enjoy their company. It’s a lifetime’s work and a play, and we’re in the play along side them, together; we are not alone.

:: The Same Theme Over The Years ::

The following images were created with the same mindset as the above “Rehearsal” images, but with a different style. It’s always about the story illustrating and telling a story for me. The following images were created over a 50 year period and their message is consistent, while their style varies completely. In my earliest studies in fine art theory this was called “Form & Content”. Some in the audience will feel the story, some won’t. It’s OK. As a commercial photographer for decades, I had to worry about pleasing many audiences; now I don’t. I’m not trying to sell a thing so reaching everyone no longer matters to me.

So, when I work, I’m always thinking about the audience I imagine may enjoy my stories and explorations, and I know it’s not a large group. How do I want the viewer / audience to feel? What do I want the viewer to take away, to remember? One might think that you just show up with a bunch of cameras and capture what’s out there in the landscape. Most people work that way, I choose not to. Point of view is everything, so I work to allow the Form to Follow, and serve the Function.

Our Earth and it’s systems are so old it’s beyond most people’s comprehension. We are temporary, and our attempts at control, dominance, and harnessing nature’s abundant power are futile in the grand design. I thoroughly enjoy witnessing the process.
